About

Into the Marchand Archive features selected resources from the History Project’s Marchand Archive originally launched in 2001. Through this blog, we highlight key images and teaching resources associated with them and share why members of our K-16 community of educators find them interesting.  We invite you to participate by sharing your own ideas on how these images support teaching and learning in the “comments” section of the relevant post.

About the History Project at UC Davis: We are a community of K-16 educators in the greater Sacramento area committed to raising student achievement by teaching history in challenging and exciting ways to expand content knowledge and develop a literate citizenry. We are dedicated to supporting and challenging one another in pursuit of excellence in history and social-science education.

We are part of UCD’s Department of History, one of six California History-Social Science Projects, and part of the larger network of the discipline-specific sites known as the California Subject Matter Projects commissioned by the California State Legislature.

The Marchand Image Collection comprises more than 8600 images, many of which have been digitized from slides and therefore are not available elsewhere. Faculty members of the UC Davis History Department contribute images used in their teaching.
